When I was about 12 weeks pregnant, my sister in law told me about the “worst test” I would encounter throughout my pregnancy: The Glucose Screening at 28 weeks. She went on and on about how horrible tasting the sugary syrup was and how she could hardly choke down the stuff at the doctor’s office. So, you can imagine my dread when at last month’s checkup, my midwife gave me a bottle of orange liquid with instructions for drinking it prior to my next monthly appointment.
One hour before my appointment yesterday, I pulled the bottle out of the fridge and started to slam the beverage – hoping to get it down before I actually tasted anything. I’ve never really been good at chugging things … and fortunately for me the syrup was not too bad! It tasted like a melted orange icy pop. Sugary and strong, yet, but it didn’t give me the gag reflex and I got it down without any issues.
So now that that test is done, I have nothing to worry about, right? Oh … except for that whole labor and delivery thing.
