Recycle Your Baby Gear with WeeCycle April 2, 2009

Filed under: Eco-Friendly Baby Furniture, Maternity Fashion — happygreenbaby @ 10:43 pm

WeeCycle is an incredible group based in Colorado that accepts your gently used baby gear (think cribs, strollers, bouncy seats, etc) and provides it to needy families in the Denver metro area.

Their mission is eco-fab:

WeeCycle’s mission is to help low income families with infants and toddlers in the Denver metro area by providing them with new and gently used baby gear free of charge.  We acquire the gear through the charitable donations of individuals and businesses and distribute it through local community organizations already serving families with infants and toddlers affected by poverty, homelessness and domestic violence.  In carrying out this mission, we also contribute to environmental preservation by recycling and reusing baby gear and operating in an environmentally conscious manner.

For those of you in the Denver area this weekend, WeeCycle is hosting the Hopscotch Hustle event on Sunday to raise funds. It’s a great event featuring a runway show, live music, silent auction, fancy carnival fare (and cocktails) and more. HappyGreenBaby.com is proud to have provided a super stylie recycled fleece outfit from Mountain Sprouts for the silent auction.

For those of you not in the Colorado area, I hear tell there are other organizations similar to this scattered throughout the country, so do a little Google research and give your retired baby gear to a good cause (and get it out of your closet).

Things I Miss About Being Not Pregnant April 2, 2009

As much as I love this belly and the experiencing all the thrills of being kicked, jabbed and generally beaten up from the inside (seriously!), there are a couple of things I am truly looking forward to having back after baby is born.

  1. Having a really sweaty, really satisfying workout.
Some people might have thought I would say a margarita. Yeah, it sounds nice … but really, I am so jealous of Marc every morning when he comes home from the gym, stinking the place up while he eats his cereal. And when I watch the Biggest Loser and I see them dripping on the spin bike. I want to do that!
  2. My old clothes.
In particular, a brown/cream polka dot silk wrap dress from Banana Republic. I love that dress. I hope baby doesn’t puke on it. I also hope that it still fits.

After enjoying my new wardrobe of maternity clothes for the past 6 months, my old rags (now the spring/summer options) will be so exciting and brand new! In fact, since we moved in November, nearly 100% of it has been boxed up in storage, so it will be like Christmas when I finally pull it back out!!

An 8-month Pregnant Woman Should Not Be … February 25, 2009

teetering around on 3″ high heels, no matter how cute they look with her new maternity dress pants.

This is something I discovered on Monday, after spending the afternoon walking to and fro meetings. Here are my top 3 reasons to avoid heels while in the late stages of pregnancy:

  1.  It’s kind of dangerous, considering the slippery sidewalks in the Seattle area, plus my sense of balance isn’t quite what it used to be.
  2. Most stylish looking fashion shoes are not meant to expand with swelling feet, making for painful pinching where you might not have felt pinching before. So painful, in fact, that I actually walked from the car to the front door barefoot. On cold cement. Across pine needles. And it still felt better than the shoes.
  3. My calves are so sore today I can barely get up out of my desk chair. Seriously.

Back to the Borns for these feet.
