The first trimester is officially over. That means we’ve started telling our friends, work and pretty much anyone else who shows a slight interest in our personal lives.

Much to my chagrin, I have done basically nothing for the past three months on the workout front. Some walks with the dog, an occasional hike, but generally not the vision of pregnancy health I had. While my belly has officially popped, I don’t feel there’s any reason for my legs or arms to get fat … so I’m back in the gym hitting the weights! It’s amazing how out of shape you can get in just three short months.

I also ordered two DVDs from Amazon – one is a pre-natal yoga video and the other is a pre-natal workout tape from a former Cirque du Soliel performer. Sure, they are still wrapped in the original packaging, two weeks after delivery – but I’m pretty sure I’ll try it today.

I love to entertain. We have friends over for BBQs, dinner and wine tastings of all sorts. I pride myself on giving our guests a top notch experience with comfortable seating, good music and fine foods. So you better believe I’m going to be one hell of a hostess to this little baby that will be partying in my womb for 9+ months.

One of the best parts of planning for a pregnancy is that you can actually get yourself in order before you host the little lima bean in your womb. By this I mean: I can get my body in a strong, healthy physical state – which will not only help me carry a happy healthy baby, but will (in theory) make the pregnancy and delivery more comfortable, too (or should I say, less uncomfortable?).

I think of this ready-ing as a 3 step approach:

1. Create a healthy body on the inside (diet)
2. Create a healthy body on the outside (exercise)
3. Create a healthy home

More on how I actually implement this to come …
